food system needs a dramatic overhaul to manage feeding 10 billion people by 2050 in a sustainable way for the planet as well as improving individual’s overall health and wellbeing.
The Food & AgriTech pillar has attracted a number of AgriTech MNCs such as Cargill and Syngenta to co-locate innovation labs and led to related innovation events such Food for Health workshop for CSIRO, Grow Asia 2018 & 2019 hackathons focused on smallholder farmers, Rabobank’s Food Loss Challenge and the MUFG led Digital ASEAN Program supported by Yarra and Grow Asia which launched Singapore’s first Agritech accelerator in late 2018.
Padang has since partnered with Aardvark Labs to open in 2019, CATALYST, a specialist medtech/digital healthcare focused co-working and innovation space. In 2020 with DSM, opened the Bright Science and Technology Innovation Hub focused on Food Nutrition with access to DSM’s food and beverage laboratories. In addition Padang has partnered with Incubaker, Singapore’s only approved co-working kitchen space with an attached retail outlet. This provides entrepreneurs with the total solution from ideation to laboratory to kitchen to consumer.
Padang has also partnered with the Future Food Institute from Bologna Italy and will be launching the Singapore Future Food Lab in 2021. Padang is pleased to be a strategic partner of Ecosystem Navigators building out a global network of ecosystem innovators.
Padang is excited by the region’s focus on Food & AgriTech and is keen to support startups in their pursuit of the many opportunities presented as this underserved industry to date gains traction from the investment community.
