Gerard Robijn was born in 1969 in the small town Dirksland in the South-West of the Netherlands. After graduating high school he studied Organic Chemistry at the University of Leiden, followed by a PhD at the University of Utrecht. Subsequently, he pursued a career in the food industry, first as a Scientist at the Snow Brand European Research Laboratory in Groningen and after that at Friesland Coberco Dairy Foods (one of the predecessors of the current company FrieslandCampina) in Deventer. At FrieslandCampina he held several positions, such as that of Manager R&D and, currently, Director Innovation Excellence. In this last role he has been responsible for Site Management of the R&D Center in Wageningen, the R&D Pilot Plant organization and a number of other R&D related processes, such as Open Innovation, Knowledge Management and Project- and Portfoliomanagement. Exploiting all opportunities that the Wageningen Ecosystem has to offer is something that Gerard is very passionate about.
